Why is it important to fix things as opposed to throwing them away?

The world today is such that we often have many items around us. Virtually all of these items depreciate with time and end up getting spoilt. The implication is that the individual often has 2 options: either to fix the broken item or to throw them away. However, for various reasons, several people prefer to throw away items that they no longer need and buy new ones as opposed to trying to fix the item that was broken. This is often not recommended as it is often best to fix those items. Here are some reasons why it is important to fix things as opposed to throwing them away.

It could affect other aspects of your life
Things we regularly do become a part of our lives without knowing when they do and how much influence they can have on us. The implication is that they slowly become a habit that we would not be able to break free from. For example, when you are already used to throwing things that are broken away from a young age, it is only a matter of time before you start ditching relationships for slight issues. While it is important to always strive for your happiness and make your happiness a priority, it is general knowledge among any teenager and adult that relationships require some commitment and sacrifice. Somehow the lack of patience to fix broken things means we won’t try to fix broken relationships. It could apply to work as well. There is a very high chance of frictions and issues happening at work that might directly involve you. The individual could find himself or herself always leaving work as well without making any effort to solve the problem. Then it would also reflect when the individual faces some general life situations that could sometimes be difficult and daunting, and then instead of trying to fix it, they might as well try to leave the world. Thus, there might be a linkage between increasing suicide rates and the fact that people are no longer patient enough to fix broken things but would quickly want to move on to other things.

It is more economical
Fixing things in most cases is more economical than replacing them. This is especially when the item just has a minor issue or for as long as the item is still fixable. In most cases, you would not be charged for an item you took to be fixed and it wasn’t successfully fixed. The only negative that can come from it is if the item gets spoilt a few days after you fix it. When this happens, you should have the opportunity to take it back to the repairman once it happens within a relatively short time after the repairer fixed it.

There are many options for fixing broken things
Even if you decide that you do not want to fix the item, you might as well take it to collection points. There are some of the items that you might even be able to dispose of and still get some payment for it because there is still the chance of refurbishing it. You can also give it to someone else who might appreciate it even in its broken phase, as the person would be able to start using the item after spending much less than it would cost to get a brand new or refurbished version. Thus, he might be able to afford the cost of fixing but won’t be able to afford a new or refurbished version. Depending on how much they need the item, they would be very grateful for the item. You can read about electronic repair stores  or read Elecok reviews to know how good they are at helping people fix broken electronics if you are looking for how to fix your broken electronics. We could also try to be more careful about the items we use so that we can use them for longer periods of time before they get broken. You can also become a DIY enthusiast and learn to fix some broken items on your own. That way, even when you have broken items that are beyond fixing, you can give them to a technician or buy similar models so that you might need something from the broken one to fix the new one in the future.

Creating most of the items hurt the environment
Another reason why you should think twice before throwing away broken items is that it hurts the environment to create those items. A lot of the items are made by picking resources out of the environment, some of which are non-renewable. Thus, the more we throw away broken things, the more we create demands for new ones to be made, and the more the environment is exploited and deplored to create the new ones. However, if we learn to hold on to the items we have a bit longer, we might be saving the environment from some problems.

Disposing of most of the items hurt the environment
Another reason why you should not throw away broken items is that throwing them away also hurts the environment. Some of these items including plastics and metals take a lot of time to decompose and could even turn to poison in the process. Some of these poisons find their ways to animals either through water or through plants, and kill them or make them seriously ill. This is apart from huge pollution with the dumping of disposed of items on huge land areas and into water bodies. If we all imbibe the culture of fixing broken items than disposing of them, it would significantly reduce how much waste the world has to battle.
